MACHINEDRUM - SXLND

(LM011) "Luckyme bring the best out of Travis Stewart on his 2nd Machinedrum single for the Glasgow institution. Following his scorching 'Alarma' 12", the 'SXLND EP' comes with a slightly more refined, sexier sound running classic Chicago, Italo and current UK sounds to his exacting specifications. The tracks were originally written in 2010, around the time of his 'Many Faces' EP, but have been recently re-engineered for 2012 'floors. He comes with deeply infectious, futurist R&B tribalism on the title track, all snagging vocal hooks and bashy drums with a sweeter tilt, while 'No Respect' sounds like a more optimised, heavyweight version of his Sepalcure sound. Our percy has to be the barking, Italo-sampling 'Van Vogue': a dance-owning swinger with cruising sub strafes and super-glossy arpeggios, but then again the stylish House grover 'DDD' is another strong contender. His solo debut 'Another City Now' is undoubtedly impressive, a very crafty balance of underground dancefloor Funk and pop-wise arrangements with universal potential. At the top you'll find the hefty R&Boogie chug of 'All That You Can Stand' and the sweetened flair of 'Follow Me', while 'Looking For Love' feels like a Dâm-Funk just found some new subbass toy. Meanwhile 'Love Me' bears no small resemblance to Ango's fellow Montréal resident Deon, and then there's the outstanding synth-soul charmer 'Better For You' and the Rustie-esque ultra-boogie pyrotechnics of 'What You Lose'. LUNICE - ONE HUNNED

(LM009) "Lunice ain't the most prolific producer out there, but in his corner of the field, he's one of the finest. Following last year's solo debut 'Stacker Upper' EP, he returns to LuckyMe with the bolder, more substantial 'One Hunned' EP to work a slicker, leaner, and better rendered sound. Like Hud Mo and Rustie, he's well enamoured with the debonaire style of late '80s/early '90s R&B and New Jack Swing, but has his ears firmly on a 2011 sound. Those influences are most overt in the Hollywood chords of 'Glow' and 'Juice' or the soul blown chops of 'And She Said', but it's the centripetal drum diffusions and dance-enhancing edit slickness of each cut that lets you know what time it really is. Best of all is the wily sparsity of 'I See U', turning out iced stabs and club-slaying synth drops like a pro. Highly recommended." - Boomkat

There's no need to bang on about 'Another Girl', it's straight anthem material combining ohrwurming vocal, a a rolling emotional topography and dancing neon melodies in beautiful style. Flip it and Braiden gives a tough rework of 'Holdin' On', full of titanium cowbells, rampant R1 Ryders style bass revs and chopped vocals, but UR's Mark Flash steals the show with a Hi-tek, carnival-killing remix of 'The Look'.
