We threw a special show in London called ‘Lunice & Friends’ – inviting the hitmane back to kick of his EU tour and finish this TNGHT record with Mo. We give away tickets for free here and took over 2000 rsvps to this 300 capacity show. It was so rowdy we really freaked out the venue, blowing up 4 power sockets and toooo many stage invasions. We wanna shout out our secret guests A Trak & S-Type. We couldn’t of asked for more! Thank you. And to Teddy Fitzhugh and Andy Brown on camera duties. And of course all the love to that crowd who really came through for us. We never did London properly before. I think we’ll do more now.

From the TNGHT hype, to Hud Mo, Lunice, Jacques Greene, Obey City and Nick Hook seeming to kill every party in town - there was something exciting in the air for LuckyUs in Austin this year. Weird and rare moments that could only happen out there seemed to come thick and fast. Things like Timbaland tweeting about how excited he was to play SbTurks with Machinedrum, or shooting the shit with Taz Arnold and his entourage like it was no thing. With the increasing move towards electronic music at SXSW I guess we’re gonna find ourselves swimming more and more around the conference. It just felt like all our crew were kings this year. Thank you if you came out and supported. SXSW 2012 was another milestone for the label.

Seven degrees of separation is all bullshit. It doesn’t exist. The maths add up but really people in this world are not equally connected. See most of us are just nodes, all individuals. We do our work and we see our friends and we retire for the night. But if you want to know people, really meet people, you need these ‘hubs’ – these guys who spent their life doing their work and then going out to meet people, refusing to retire for the night. And Nick Hook is one those hubs. We met at SXSW in 2010 and me and Mo instantly fell in love with him after watching Cubic Zirconia melt this packed lil show to 150 people in a tiny style bar. The next day we all gatecrashed Peter Rosenbergs beats showcase and Nick was hitting shots of Jameson and freaking out the backpackers by blowing a rave whistle over the MPC hip hop sets. Ever since, we’ve been cool. The last few years of knowing him have resulted in us meeting some of our heroes through him (YAKBALLZ!) and introducing him to mutual friends (AZEALIA BANKS!). We’ve played a couple great parties together in New York, London & Scotland. And we’re still trying to get a release out of him but Nick is always flying somewhere to hang out and work with someone else. Anyway – we’re looking forward to SXSW again this year. And this tape is a SXSW flyer for him. It sums up the people he knows and works with – as well as the insane amount of travelling he does and the good vibe he effortlessly exudes. Salute Nick Hook. Azealia and Travis go way back. She opened for us at 88 Palace in New York and as long as we’ve known Travis we’d been hearing bought this girl who could kill anyone on the mic. Last year she spent time in Montreal making some hits while whylin out with JG, ANGO & of course Lunice. Then she leaked “Runnin” with Lunice, which we included on our advent calendar. Well the last few months have been crazy for Azealia on the back of 212 blowing the fuck up. But she flew to Berlin to catch up with Travis, formulate a plan and found time to get loose on the SXLND instrumental. We did the art and hosted the files and to date it’s clocked 165,000 listens. But likely way more by the time you are reading this. All love to Banks. Go get em.

Helix is that dude with All Caps & Night Slugs 12″s out this apocalyptic 2012 which places him in unique position to quietly influence the best djs this year; just before the oceans evaporate forever… and so what’s he offering? Well he’s upping the tempo on all this pussy compressed laptop techno and trying to bring back something raw uncut with clattering, black-pepper drum programming that feels authentic. He builds music for 1AM and 4AM with equal weight – even his deeper, understated moments swing on long tape saturated pads. And with this tape for us, which could of easily just been a tribute to OJ Da Juiceman, he sorta surprised us with this perfect night drive soundtrack of rapid & classic techno that warrants bouncing to cassette just for the extra dose of fuzz as the planet moves slowly closer to the sun. We first began the mp3 advent calendar in 2008 on this very site, but brought it back this year to showcase some of the best rarities and exclusives from the label. We’re sure you can find a mediafire compiled by a loyal follower but until this December I’m afraid you won’t find it here. This years selection found Hudson Mohawke soul edits butted up against Rustie, Machinedrum, Jacques Greene, The Blessings, Obey City, Gradient Overlay, Lunice, Azealia Banks & more. We caught a lot of attention from the blogs on this one but we were particularly surprised when the respected design journal Creative Review continued to point traffic our way throughout the month of December. It’s a cool idea. We’ll keep it up.

Another City Now is the debut ep from Andrew Gordon Macpherson aka ANGO – the next fresh voice hailing from Montreal. A frequent collaborator with Jacques Greene, Lunice & Azealia Banks, now is the time for him to step out alone.

Over this 6 track tale, written on the road whilst touring in January 2011, one hears late 80s pop, early 90s house and contemporary RnB rise in equal measure. Both producer and writer, this record casts a lyrically polarised selection of girl songs expressing the giddy way up and the painful way back down. But there’s something defiantly warm in ANGO’s music. This isn’t the morose electronic rnb that 2011 brought us. ANOTHER CITY NOW is a balanced record: upbeat and deep, vintage and yet totally modern, as heart aching as it is uplifting. Our tenth release is something special.

14.10.11 - GLASS SWORDS ALBUM LAUNCH

On October 14th 2011 LM teamed up with Numbers once again to present the rowdiest party either of us have ever been involved in. Rustie’s album launch on home turf in Glasgow. A certified smash, we had queues round the block for Rustie to headlines with Spencer and The Blessings in support. The booth was shaking to bits. People literally hung from the ceiling and we have no proof any of it happened because out club photographer gave up forever because the night was so crazy. Unbelievable I know, but I swear it’s completely true. Glass Swords was an obvious highlight for the crew so far, clocking Guardian’s First Album of the Year Award, as well as numerous Albums of 2011 accolades. But honestly you could strip this album of any media and it’ll still be our favourite music. Rustie’s is a boss round here.

On September 22nd 2011 we held holding down a stage at Toronto’s Manifesto Festival as part of RBMA’s program of Culture Clash events. Last week we had Ben UFO play our Edinburgh party and we all went for dinner at this legendary dim sum spot at Haymarket and I got a fortune cookie that said “Continous improvement is better than delayed perfection – Mark Twain” so I came home and emailed our programmer at 5 in the morning all drunk saying let’s just get the site live and make adjustments when we can.

This post archives the launch of the new site design and the geographic expansion of the roster once again as our friend Machinedrum moves to new residence in Berlin. A truly global collective of artists now, these rap concerts and the internet ensure we stay deep with each other. We major.
